Leading US LNG Group Wants Vietnam to Become ASEAN’s Distribution Hub

Excelerate Energy, a US energy group active in liquefied natural gas (LNG), has expressed a desire to cooperate so that Vietnam becomes the LNG distribution hub of the ASEAN region. This comes as Vietnam seeks long-term, stable supply that can support its energy transition.

According to disclosed information, Excelerate Energy has agreed with PV GAS on supplying long-term LNG from the US to the Vietnamese market. The company proposes developing LNG infrastructure, ensuring stable supply and forming a joint venture with Vietnamese partners to expand the regional market.

Vietnam holds an advantage within the ASEAN trade network, with rising demand and an orientation toward building storage and distribution hubs serving markets in many areas. Developed in sync, projects for storage, pipelines, cold logistics and power plants could create a new, cleaner value chain.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed that Vietnam advocates fast but sustainable development, not trading the environment for growth alone. LNG activity therefore should not stop at imported fuel but also requires technology transfer, storage-management know-how, safe operations and emission-reduction solutions during the transition.
